Wondering if any one can explain the function of the “clip” (7) held by the “peg” (6).?
I dismantled one of these starters today to clean out years of solidified oil and grease and noticed the clip which while being in place around the rope pulley does not appear to contact or restrain anything else but the starter functions as it should.
Over the years I have fitted new ropes and springs to many of this pattern of starter without having take notice of this clip or being aware of its function.
    Now I’m curious!

Angus , strangely enough I,ve just had one of those to pieces recently , on an F15 that I converted to fit on a Howard220.
I can’t say that I gave it much thought , and also fail to see it’s intended function.

    Andy.
