• How much clearance should there be between the end of the drive bar and the drive block on the knife? When it’s at extreme one side the smallest gap is 3/16″ on the other side. Looks a bit excessive to me. Tried attaching photo again (it is smaller than 3072KB).

  • Thanks Charlie, I did get it running, sort of. Very back firing, at least can’t be miles out. How on earth do you tell where points open? Can’t really see in there. At least I’ve got a good healthy spark with new bits from George.

  • When replacing the flywheel on a Villiers MK 25C should the flywheel arrow and notch in crankshaft be pointing at the arrow on the magneto backplate or should crank be at TDC with flywheel and casing arrow aligned?

  • I now have a new ignition kit and have started fitting it, is there a “how to do” available anywhere. I know the basic principles but it’s a long time since I had anything to do with a 2 stroke. Any help much appreciated.

  • Thank you both, I did suspect that but much happier now. Don’t go away I have feeling I’ll be back again. Cleaning and derusting the cutter bar at the moment. Can’t remember now which engine it was but I’d never consider using cooling fins again.

  • I have bought an Allen Scythe in need of large amounts of tlc. My main problem at the moment is no spark. Have got cover, cooling fins off but not sure about removing flywheel.
