    Hi to all,
Thank you for the spark plug info.

  • Hi to all,

New man here so just finding my way around, I would like to know what the correct spark plug is for my MG5 Ransome 1950 model.

    Hi to all,

It says a lot for British Built machines when they are built in 1950 have many owners over the years and are then left dumped in a watery march grave for the last five years and yet they can still be brought back to life and working order in eight months.

    Hi to all,

Not quite ready for this seasons vintage shows but getting close, need to find some means of transport as in a plant type trailer between now and May month.

    Hi to all,

Finally worked out the gremlins and the old MG5 is off the axle stands and driving with gears engaging cleanly and carb tuned to get tick-over spot on, so it has been up and down the parking area a few times today and is now moved to a more sheltered spot for the incoming snow that is forecast for this week.
    Very pleased with the…[Read more]

    Hi to all,

Finally get back to the tractor this week as the weather has turned mild, so have been testing the carb changes that I made about five weeks ago which have partly worked, the tick-over is now slowed down enough to allow gear engagement without crunching them in but I seem to have lost the higher revs.
I do have drive but at a low speed…[Read more]

I think the implement I need the start building this year for the Ransome tractor would have to be a snow plough since the council seem to have forgotten how to use them, I have turned a small fertiliser barrow into a gritter which works quite well on the footpaths.

    Hi to all,

I see my recently acquired MG5 Ransome is now listed in the register as a 1950 model so it was well worth dragging it out of that muddy loch water, still some work to be done on it but most of the hard work is done and it is looking good.

    Hi to all,

My restoration work has had to stop for now partly due to weather and a very heavy cold, but the more taxing jobs have been done.
Still a few improvements to make mainly to the carburettor, matching it up to the very narrow manifold to help the flow of fuel at tick-over speed.
Still looking for a tyre for the grubber 10×2 inch or iron…[Read more]

    Hi to all,

I would like to know what shows there are for garden machinery north of the border that members of this club attend, I already go to Kelso Biggar and Scone which have sections for garden ride on and walk behind machines are there any others?

    Hi to all,

My starting problem being solved by this simple injection fuel line still leaves me the high tick-over engine speed to sort out, however I think the first thing I will do is to make sure that the carb venture and the inlet manifold are machined out to match, any edge or lip there could be restricting the fuel flow at low engine…[Read more]

    Hi to all,

Today was tow-bar wiring day so man with Skoda can now tow my trailer for all those jobs on his list of work to be done.

    Hi to all,

The vacuum pipe connection failed to do the job but another way was found to cure the stating problem, by drilling a small hole in the highest point in the inlet manifold and passing a thin plastic pipe through towards the cylinder head so that a small amount of fuel can be fed into the combustion chamber then capped off before…[Read more]

    Hi to all,

Now that the tractor is up and running it is time to try and sort out a starting problem that has been a problem with both the Amal carb which was fitted but damaged and the SU type which I have adapted and does work very well but for one failing, it does not seem to deliver enough fuel into the combustion chamber when turned over the…[Read more]

    Hi to all,

That is the plough all cleaned up and painted with a couple coats of good quality paint, I am surprised at the good state the metal is in having laid in marsh-land mud for five years it must be made of good quality steel.

    Hi to all,
I made a start to renovate the Ransome plough that came out of the mud when we collected the tractor, it seems to be in quite good nick so a good clean up and first coat of paint will make it very presentable and if I can find room to store the implements inside over the winter they will be ready to show next year.

    Hi to all,
With the number of rallies I attend up here in the north and most of them having a large tractor and agriculture section I am intending to enter my MG5, as I am already a member of a local tractor and engine club which like this one puts out a magazine called the starting handle.

    Hi to all,
Does anyone know were I might be able to get two Dunlop tyres 10 inch by two inch for my Ransome grubber implement, or iron wheels to replace them as I have noticed this implement was fitted with iron wheels in the past.

    Hi to all,
This morning has started with a good crack of frost with bright sunshine, so I might uncover the old tractor and top up the fuel and see if the old girl will start because I am still having a problem getting the tick-over to set at the manual figure of 600rpm.
The implements that came with the tractor are still being cleaned up ready…[Read more]
