    Thanks for another good read in The Cultivator. I particularly enjoyed reading about the life of Barry Hawkins’ Grandpa’s trusty tractor. Attached is a picture of my Grandad’s trusty with my Dad operating it. The other picture shows my brother riding on the tool box which I used to do too. Looks very dangerous now, but didn’t seem do at the time!

    Looks like that one has a Briggs and Stratton ZZ engine.

    I don’t know if the pictures are of the same trusty as I know my Grandad had at least two. What I do remember is that it was always a pain to get started!
    At least one of them ended up in Africa.

    Black and white one has the Briggs engine, colour one has a Jap 5…

    Thought they looked different. Mine (the one in my profile picture) has a Douglas engine and looks similar to the jap one.

    The colour one is a Douglas engined Trusty. The JAP 5 and 6 didn’t have that type of tank support, they had a cast iron bracket with solid vertical supports. The Douglas SV54 had the tank supports made from mild steel strip which is what is shown on the colour picture.
