I picked up a lucas sri magneto for my jap engine howard gem this week and believe the rotation can be reversed from clockwise to anticlockwise has anyone ever tried this before?

You would need to change the points cam. Also its position on the rotors taper is very important as the contact breakers need to open at just the right time (when the magnetic field is collapsing / breaking down).

Managed to reverse the Lucas sr1 mag and get a very good spark. The points cam is screwed down onto a taper ..when the the screw is removed the cam can be prised off and moved . I changed the condenser and what a difference it made to the spark. the full instructions are on line in pdf form …lucas workshop instructions SR1 magneto …page 8 cam timing.
