    HI. I AM A NEW MEMBER AND NO DOUBT SOMEONE HAS ASKED BEFORE BUT HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY DONE ANY PLOUGHING WITH A HOWARD 350 WITH THE HOWARD PLOUGH ATTACHMENT AND ALSO HOW MUCH WEIGHT WAS USED TO BALLAST IT.

    for successful ploughing with Howard 350 you need front counter weight and carrier frame also the wheel weights

    THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD USED ONE AND IF SO WAS IT EFFECTIVE . ALSO WHAT ACTUALLY DO THE WEIGHTS WEIGH AS I DO NOT WANT TO PAY UPWARDS OF £50 FOR TWO WHEEL WEIGHTS IF I CAN JUST ADD THE WEIGHT ELSEWHERE . I MADE A FRONT WEIGHT BRACKET BUT DONT REALLY KNOW HOW MUCH TO PUT ON IT . I CAN ADD WEIGHTS TO REAR ABOVE THE PLOUGH TO BALANCE IT AND EXPERIMENT A BIT THAT WAY.HAVING NEVER DONE ANY PLOUGHING BEFORE AND ONLY SEEN IT DONE ON YOUTUBE I WAS WORRIED THAT SUCH A SMALL MACHINE MAY NOT BE UP TO IT AS SOME OF THOSE ON YOUTUBE AREAMAZING .

    JUST BOUGHT A BARFORD ATOM 15 OFF THAT AUCTION SITE THAT NOBODY SEEMS TO MENTION BY NAME !!. I THOUGHT IT WAS A BARGAIN AT 10 QUID AND WAS TOYING WITH PUTTING THE WHEEL WEIGHTS OFF IT ONTO THE HOWARD ?? THE ATOM IS VERY ROUGH. BEEN SLEEPING OUTSIDE FOR MANY YEARS WITH THE LOOK OF IT.ENGINE TURNS OVER EXHAUST VALVE STUCK OPEN SO NO COMPRESSION. TYRE SIZE IS 4.00 X 12 IF ANY ONE HAS ANY ?BELT IDLER PULLEY ARM BUSH SEEMS TO BE AWAY BUT THE GEAR BOX AND DRIVE HUBS STILL WORK OK. I WAS LOOKING AT PHOTO GALLERY BUT COULDNT SEE ONE WITH THE AMAL CARB OR THE STARTER PULLEY ON THE DRIVE END. IS IT ORIGINAL ?WHAT ENGINE IS IT ANY ANSWERS ?

    From the pics , that looks like an AC120 engine from a Howard Bantam , which would explain the starter pulley issue.
    I very much doubt the wheel weights would fit inside your 350 wheels.

    Definitely the wrong engine, Barford Atom 15 should have a Villiers Mk12.

    THANKS FOR THE REPLIES CHAPS.MAYBE A TENNER WAS NOT SUCH A BARGAIN BUT IT WAS GOING TO THE SCAPYARD IF I HADNT BOUGHT IT SO PERHAPS SOME GOOD WILL COME OF IT ??I AM OFF TO THE ALLOTMENT NOW TO TRY THE 350 PLOUGH ON AN UNUSED PLOT AND SEE WHAT SORT OF A MESS I CAN MAKE. I HAVE A FEW BRICKS I CAN TIE ON TO BALLAST IT !! I MIGHT PUT A PIC OR TWO ON IF ITS NOT SUCH A COCKUP .JOHN

    WELL MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT PLOUGHING. PHEW IT AINT EASY. THE PLOT I HAD FOR PRACTICING ON LOOKED OK BUT WAS NOT. IT HAD RUTS AND BUMPS BRICKS AND ROOTS AND NEARLY BROKE ME !! BUT AS YOU CAN SEE I GOT A REASONABLE RESULT[ WELL BY MY STANDARDS ANYWAY] AFTER ABOUT TWO HOURS SWEARING ADJUSTING AND THEN SWEARING AGAIN. IF NOTHING ELSE IT PROVED THAT IT IS POSSIBLE AND THAT THE 350 HAD PLENTY POWER AND NOT ENOUGH TRACTION. BIGGEST PROBLEM ,APART FROM BRICKS ROOTS HOLES ETC, WAS BOTTOMING OUT ON THE CHAIN DRIVE BOX WHICH LIFTED THE PLOUGH OUT ON SOME OF THE RUTS /BUMPS AND THEN PLUNGED THE PLOUGH BACK IN AND STOPPED ME. SO I PROGRESSED TO MY PLOT AND THE GREEN MANURE PATCH WHICH WAS MUCH MORE DO ABLE AND LEVEL AND NO LUMPS OF ANYTHING . THIS BIT HELPED ME OVERCOME MY MISGIVINGS ABOUT PLOUGHING AND GAVE ME THE SATISFACTION OF SEEING A GOOD RESULT [AGAIN BY MY STANDARDS] . ANYWAY JUDGE FOR YOURSELF AND DONT HOLD BACK ON TELLING ME WHAT A MESS IT WAS. I WONT BE OFFENDED [MUCH]. HAPPY NEW YEAR. JOHN
